The Trip

At the beginning of July 2013 my girlfriend and I are planning to drive from our home town of Malvern, England to our new home Sydney, Australia. Travelling by car our journey will be split across three stages; England to Mongolia, Asia and finally Australia.

Full list of countries from all stages of the trip is as follows:

  • England
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Slovenia
  • Croatia
  • Hungary
  • Romania
  • Moldova
  • Ukraine
  • Russia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Mongolia
  • Laos
  • Cambodia
  • Thailand
  • Malaysia
  • Indonesia
  • Australia

The Car

We will be doing most of this in a 2004 Renault Clio! It has a 1.2 liter engine, so its not going to be an easy ride but we think she will get us there!

The Charity

We are doing this trip in association with two fantastic charities that we are raising money for; Cool Earth and One World Futbol. Cool Earth is an environmental charity that works in partnership with indigenous communities in Rainforest areas. The mission at the One World Futbol Project is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth around the world through the One World Futbol, a virtually-indestructible ball that never goes flat and never needs a pump.

Stage 1: Mongol Rally - [More Details]

We have planned our trip to coincide with the 2013 Mongol Rally, a well-established endurance rally across Europe founded to raise awareness and funds for Cool Earth. Often described as the “greatest adventure in the world”, the Mongol Rally is not a race, but a test of navigation, ingenuity and resourcefulness. Our chosen route will take us 7,500 miles through 14 countries in a car which must be no more than ten years old, with an engine capacity around 1.2 litres, which will eventually be donated to the charity again upon our arrival.

Stage 2: Asia - [More Details]

This is the least planned section of the trip, as it will mean driving through China, and Google Maps doesn't seem to think you can drive through it. I'm sure we can, and we will

In Asia, we hope to see Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia and soak up everything it has to offer.

Stage 3: Australia- [More Details]

We will likely fly into Darwin from South East Asia, unless we can catch a boat over, but I doubt Tony Abbott would let us back in if we come in by boat.

Once we're in Darwin, we intend to try to relocate a campervan to Sydney via Townsville and Magnetic Island on the East Coast and down via Brisbane to Sydney.
