Change of Start Venue

We got an email today informing us the the guys Dover Castle (after give the Mongal Rally company the green light on the location etc) have pulled out of hosting the start line. Boo!

However in true British style the guys at the Adventurist battled on and found an even more awesome Castle to have it at that we can take over for the weekend Yey!
(And it's only 40 miles down the road from where it was suppose to be originally held)

Say hello to Bodiam Castle.

Looks pretty bad ass right? Here is a run down of what we will be doing when there;

12 noon Campsite opens
Turn up pitch your tents anytime after midday. There is a big tent for you to meet your fellow ralliers and the person who will have to tow you out of a ditch in a couple of weeks time.
3pm Registration opens
You will be able to register your team fully and pick up those vital extras such as car stickers and t-shirts.
7pm The party begins
Doors to the castle swing open and a free feast will await you along with musical delights and the usual Adventurists chaos of battling knights, wenches and mead. Steady your soul for it will take a pounding.
8am Breakfast
You can't start a rally without bacon and tea. So you won't have to.
10am The launch begins
Your time has come as we celebrate the biggest idiots of this years rally, with awards and banter and hand clapping and back slapping and...
11am You bugger off
Your tiny shite-mobiles trundle forth to take on the world. But before you even start you will have to drive over our massive stage and the start line itself.

Could not be more excited now.  16 days to go! x

Kickstarter - Successfully Completed

Thanks to everyone's hard work we now have enough cash now to go out and buy the digital recording equipment we need to really make this trip look spectacular.

We asked for £2,000 and you pledged £2,285!

The trip costs were always sorted, but it really is going to be an incredible journey and we really wanted to be able to share the experience with you, and bring it home with us in HD. Thanks to all of you we now can.

Thank you again and if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.

We are good to Go Pro!

With Mike being back in Oz and me in the UK it's quite hard trying to sort things out being the other side of the world from each other.  With three and half weeks to go until we leave (14th July) things are moving exceptionally quick.
Now that we have reached our Kickstarter target (a massive, huge, tremendous THANK YOU to everyone to donated, without your help most of it would have been filmed on my iPhone!) we are able to get the camera equipment we need to film this adventure.

Mike has spent weeks and weeks researching what Go Pros would be best and he finally purchased them and the accessories to go with each.

Check out these bad boys....

One Go Pro will be fixed to the dashboard inside the car filming our lovely selves progressively looking more and more feral as the days go on and the other (if it doesn't fall off) will be fixed to the outside of the car!  They also have waterproof cases which is a massive bonus. So come rain or shine this little beauty will keep on rolling.

I'm excited!  Three and a half weeks to go  :D

Passports and Visas Ready to Go

Today we got our passports back from The Visa Machine with all of our visas ready and printed.

With this done, the car and the Kickstarter campaign nearly at an end all we need to do is buy some cameras, get on the plane and make this all work.

Car Must Haves - Europe

European Countries as of last year have bought in new laws for anyone who lives there or people who are driving through these countries are to have all of the below in your vehicle at all times.

  • Breathalyser (new law for France)
  • High-vis jacket (for each person in your vehicle)
  • Reflective warning trianlge
  • GB sticker (for those who live in the UK)
  • Headlight converter stickers (for those who live in the UK)
  • First Aid Kit (which we are taking anyway)
  • And headlamp lightbulbs

Luckily my Stepdad informed me of this today so we headed down to Halfords and bought all of the above as well as a toe rope and petrol container.

I'm seeing my Dad & Step mum this weekend who are supplying us with sleeping bags, gas camping stoves plus gas canisters, a trusty car manual and some beanies for the cold evenings in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan that my step mum knitted.  You superstar.

I am also looking into a sump guard to protect the underneath of the car incase we hit any rocks along the way it will limit the amount of damage done.
Will keep you posted with how that all goes!

Finally in the UK

Touchdown!  I'm here.  Finally. After 38 hours of hell getting back from Sydney I finally walked in the front door Monday night at 9.30pm.
Had the best nights sleep (no drugs needed compared to the four I popped on the flight) and woke up to the most beautiful morning.

Top things to get sorted:

Change car over into my name - Done
Car Insurance - Doing
Mail Carne De Passage to RAC - To do
Sponsor stickers for car - To do

So there are lot of things to keep me busy and entertained the first few days. Below are some photos I took along the way and there will be a short video going up either today or tomorrow (depending on my editing skills!!)

Goodbye Sydney!

Beijing Hotel

Have me some slag for breakfast

Beijing Airport

Beautiful end to the day

Massive Announcement!

Big Announcement today! Our Long Drive Home is proud to announce that we will be partnering with to provide you and its audience with quality digital content and updates from the trip whilst we are on the road!

As one of the world’s leading premierw online websites for car enthusiasts, car culture and lifestyle, we are very proud that they have shown an interest in the epic challenge we are currently facing.

Whilst we are still ironing out the full details of what will be involved, we can announce that we will be providing them with updates, stills and video whilst we battle our way from England to Australia over land!’s advice and vast experience in documenting adventures such as ours will no doubt lead to a really polished and enjoyable final product for both you and their readers! For more information on take a look at their website.

This doesn't mean that we don’t still need your help in creating this travel documentary. Every pledge you make brings us closer to producing the world class footage we think you deserve. Please take a look at each of the pledges in our Kickstarter campaign for more information on what we are offering for your help:

Visas Complete!

Just received confirmation that all of our visas are now complete and we are eligible to enter each of the counties we are going through that require a visa stamp prior to our arrival!

Now you'll notice that South East Asia isn't on there, nor is Kyrgyzstan. However, South East Asian countries allow visas to be granted on the border, and being British means we don't need a visa to entire Kyrgyzstan!

Things are all starting to come together!

Air China is the new Ryanair

Still not in the UK. A day late and stuck in Beijing after missing our connecting flight to London. Currently sharing a hotel room with a lovely but random girl, and I am being put on a flight later today.

They have provided me with the most delicious and nutritious of meals though!

Oh I just love Air China! Poor mum is waiting for me in London.

Car Kangaroos and Money

One of the Mongol Rally traditions is for contestants to bring with them a large useless object, with a prize going to the team with the largest most useless object that makes it all the way to Mongolia.

Therefore, we purchased the following beauty that Jess is taking with her tomorrow on her flight to the UK (more on that tomorrow).

We still don't have a name for our little mascot so if you have any ideas just let us know:

I also came across these money pictures today that I thought were quite interesting, as we are going to be buying beers with most of these along the way.

Indonesian Rupiah

Kazakhstan Tenge

Kyrgyzstan  Som

Malaysian Ringgit

Russian Ruble

Thai Baht

Anyway, Jess is off to the UK tomorrow to get the car all sorted and ready for the kick off in a months time so I'm sure she will post later on.
