Planning South East Asia

Being the one part of the trip where we wont be able to drive it seemed important that we get some real planning sorted. We know SE Asia can seem like a bit of a backpacker heaven and everyone from my 17 yr old brother to Leo DiCaprio has been there and done that, but we haven't. We really didn't know much about anything of the region other than names returning travelers through at you so knowingly like Fooket and Peepee.

Therefore, we enrolled a seasoned traveller of the region and good friend, Tim McCleave to sit down with us over a couple of Lucky Beers and jelly sweets to help us battle through this tropical wonderland.

Now it has been decided that we will fly into the capital of Laos, Vientiane take the night bus down to Phnom Penh Cambodia. We will go via Seim Reap and Angkor Wat on our way to Bangkok, Thailand.

After Bangkok we will head down to the islands of Koh Samui and Ko Phi Phi on our way to Malaysia before jumping on a ferry over to Indonesa where we can bus it down through Jakarta to Bali and the Gili Islands.

One of the other useful things we found out is that other than McDonalds there isn't much in the way peanut free food in South East Asia, so it looks like Jess might be living on crickets or cooking her own food!

Anyway, very useful night! Thanks to Tim and his girlfriend Veronica for helping us out!

Question and Answer Sessions [Updated]

We've had a number of people email us questions about the trip and asking us about certain aspects so we thought we'd turn it into a FAQ video, set on the headlands between Bondi and Tamarama beaches it was a little windy but a gorgeous day.

We have also done a video of Mike answering questions to fill in some more details.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions, but if you have any other questions that you'd like to ask please email us at

Charity Quiz Night Photos

On Thursday we had our charity quiz night which was a roaring success.  By the end of the night we had exceeded our fundraising expectations and more importantly everyone seemed to have an awesome time.

Here are some of the pictures from the evening. Thanks again to everyone who attended and helped raise cash for our chosen charities.

And a game of Pony or Pornstar.....

Charity Fundraising Trivia Night!!

So last night we held the Our Long Drive Home Trivia Night at The Royal Oak Hotel in Double Bay and it was a resounding success!

After a fun-filled quiz, hosted by yours truly, a number of raffle draws and a couple of games of Pony or Porn Star, we are pretty exhausted this morning but we couldn't be more proud and grateful to have so many wonderful fantastic friends to help up raising this money.

Talking of money, by the end of the night we raised a whopping great big $1440.20 for the charities Cool Earth and One World Futbol, so thank you to all of you for all of your help. We will be putting all the money into the bank today and depositing it into the charity fundraising account straight away!

Thanks again, and we hope to put up more pictures tonight!

Kickstarter Campaign

Our long awaited Kickstarter campaign has finally been approved and has gone live!!!

We created the Kickstarter campaign as we are looking to record as much digital content as possible. The trip is going to be beautiful and deserves it, but we are in dire need of a HD camcorder and some digital storage so we can keep shooting as much as possible.

Once we get back to Sydney we will also be compiling all of our fantastic digital content into a documentary / travel guidebook!

If you'd like to help please take a look at the campaign page here:

Thanks again for all your help!

Breakfasts from Around the World

I saw a link today that made me think about all the lovely / interesting things we are going to get to eat during our trip.

English Full Breakfast

Wurst, Kase and Cafe in Germany
Pastries from France
Cool Italian Breakfast
Mongolian boiled mutton with lots of fat and flour and maybe some dairy products or rice. In western Mongolia they add variety to their diets with horsemeat
A Thai breakfast supposedly consists of some meaty treat dropped in a semolina/porridge mixture. What you see above is pork porridge. It features Chinese doughnuts, beansprouts, pork intestine stuffed with peppery pork mince, sliced pork heart, stomach slivers and blood pudding.

Its going to be a little more interesting than my usual scrambled eggs thats for sure. Here is the full list here:

Pitch Video Stills

We recently shot a pitch video to hopefully raise some money for camera equipment. Directed by Hareth Tarem and Stu Bowen it involved driving around Sydney's eastern suburbs whilst asking directions from imaginary Mongols and avoiding make-believe goat herders.

Whilst the video is being edited I thought I'd provide you with some of the stills from the shoot.

Hope you like it.

Our Chariot Awaits

So today we got a Renault Clio 1.2Ltr 3-door Hatchback 2004.

Jess will get it serviced when we get back to the UK but it looks pretty good.

Now lets get it to Mongolia!

Exciting stuff!
